Job Description: The West Side Farmers Market (WSFM) seeks a student with experience in Marketing, Public Relations, or Communication to work with the West Side Farmers Market staff and board of directors to develop and begin implementing a long-term social media plan throughout the 2021 farmers market season (June – October).
Leading up to the farmers market season, the intern will evaluate the market’s current social media and marketing efforts and strategies, develop a cross-platform strategy and set of guidelines for the 2021 season. The intern will implement and adjust the social media plan during the 2021 season with the input of market staff and the board of directors. During this time, the intern will manage the WSFM social media accounts with guidance, supervision, and assistance from market staff.
As an end of internship project, WSFM requests a final social media plan based on the initial plan written at the start of the season, which incorporates lessons learned from the 2021 season.
Time Commitment: April – November, 2021
Pre-season April – May
50 hours developing social media plan for the 2021 season including meeting with staff and board members to understand the needs of WSFM, and to write and deliver the plan to the WSFM team.
15 hours beginning to take over posting duties for WSFM in the lead up to the 2021 season (mid-May).
Season June – October
3-5 hours/week posting on social media and interacting with customer and vendor posts, and interacting with market staff about post content. This may include helping market staff arrange for market day social media posts and adjusting the plan to better fit market needs.
5 hours/month being present at 2 markets per month to gather content for media posts, help with promotions, and to understand the needs of the market.
Post-season October-November
30 hours finalizing a long-term social media plan for WSFM based on initial plan and experience and feedback throughout the season. Once the plan is finalized and agreed upon by the Executive Director, the intern will lead a training for staff and board members on implementing the social media plan into the future.
Experience required:
Coursework in marketing, communications, public relations, and/or media studies. Experience with branded social media (not just personal social media).
Desired experience:
Familiarity with agriculture, farmers markets, community-based organizations, non-profits, Spanish language skills.

This is a volunteer internship.The intern will be expected to follow all Covid-19 safety measures put in place by the WSFM staff and board.
